I-Rock 93.5 Exclusive Video Chat With William DuVall About His Cool New Song With The Hu
Have you ever started a conversation with somebody and instantly knew they were way smarter than you? Happens to me all the time. In this interview with William DuVall, I figured out really quickly that this was going to be a deeper conversation than the ones I have in my own head.
The Hu have a new song with William DuVall from Alice in Chains and I-Rock 93.5 got to talk with him about the intricate process of taking a song already made in a different language and transforming it into something new.
This is Mongol (Warrior Souls)
“This Is Mongol (Warrior Souls)” further highlights the song’s original message of promoting Mongolian culture and empowering environmental awareness by adding English-translated lyrics, sung by DuVall - who also produced and mixed the single.
“It was such an exciting and fulfilling challenge to write and produce something that remained true to The Hu’s sensibilities while also resonating with my own,” shares William DuVall. “‘Warrior Souls’ is a testament to the fact that, no matter where we come from, in the end, we all want the same things. To prosper in our own time despite the odds arrayed against us, making previous generations proud and leaving a worthy legacy for the future. I’m honored by this collaboration and very proud of the result.”
William DuVall talks with I-Rock 93.5
William joined us via the technology of video call to talk about the process of making the song. As a music lover, or somebody that makes music, was fascinating.
William said that he recorded 50 vocal tracks in one song. He used his vocal parts and had to serve the balance by mixing in the parts with The Hu vocals.
While the lyrics for the new song are totally different than the original, as William says, there was no accurate way to translate the lyrics from Mongolian to English and work in the song, he wanted to make sure that the pride of The Hu's Mongolian heritage was still the focus of the song.
We also talked about how he got involved with the band from the start. The possibility of a tour with The Hu. Getting The Hu and all their guest vocalists together, and of course, I had to ask if we could expect anything new from Alice in Chains musically or touring. I mean come on, of course, I was still going to get that in there.
It was great chatting with a guy that has been doing it for a long time and has learned to "say yes more in life". Check it out below and check out the video for the song below as well.
