Avenged Sevenfold has a new song, a new album coming, and a massive tour planned.  So we talked with the bass player for A7X Johnny Christ about all of it, and other random things cause that's just what we do.

While I was prepared to have "Drinks with Johnny", he told us that he had band practice coming and couldn't partake.  Yes, even mega bands like Avenged Sevenfold have practice before going out on tour.  But, it was still the same setup that Johnny has on his video channel on YouTube.

If you haven't seen it, you could quickly go down a rabbit hole with all the random guests and the topics they discuss on the show.  I had to ask him about his conversation with another radio guy from LA and a quick question about Wrestlemania cause he's a big wrestling fan.  While I could have spent another hour talking with him about both of these topics, the timer was ticking and I of course wanted to talk about the new Avenged Sevenfold music.

While we haven't heard from Avenged Sevenfold in 7 years, it's not like they've been sleeping the entire time.  I asked Johnny what that final push was to get the album done which brought a 5-minute response recapping the last 7 years.

While the last time they put out new music was in 2016, the band was touring until 2018.  Once off the road they immediately started writing again.  Then they started putting things together.  Then, of course, 2020 hit.  And unlike other younger bands that needed to put something out to keep relevant and keep the money flowing in, Avenged Sevenfold was able to ride it out and take their time.

Johnny said the new album is clearly "different sonically" but is still Avenged Sevenfold.  He said no matter what they do it goes through A7X filter.

With a massive summer tour planned I also talked to Johnny about live shows and taking things full circle back to wrestling, he said he'd love to play where they just had Wrestlemania.  A sold-out SoFi stadium in LA.

You can check out the full video here.  And sorry about the camera work.  I swear I'll get better at Zoom.  I couldn't figure out how to record just the two of us.  So I put it in one-player mode, then the guy from the record label was on the screen...then I got it fixed...next time it will be spot on I promise.  But you can still watch and enjoy our version of "Drinks with Johnny and Ryan".
