If you talk with bands that travel from coast to coast they will tell you over and over that the Midwest rocks harder than any other area in the country.

This is probably why the Midwest is also a hotbed of rock talent and bands.  Here is another one that is starting to blow up across the country and they are from right here in Iowa.  Discover Widow7.

Mark (vocals), Seth (bass), Shane (drums) Jason (guitar) started just over 3 years ago in Des Moines Iowa.  Right around the time of the pandemic.  Seth says when they first got together they thought "oh this will be a cool local band".  That cool local band quickly realized they were more than that.

Their very first show in Des Moines sold out.  Their second show was a label showcase in LA.  By show 9 and 10 they are playing with Slipknot and Metallica.  "So it took off way quicker than I've ever seen," says Seth.

The band has said that hitting the festival scene has introduced them to established rock names.  At their Rocklahoma show Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers made a point to watch their set and told them after "they crushed it".

At another festival, they were talking with Matt Pinfield who is a big supporter and while they were chatting Jacoby from Papa Roach walked up and said "Hey, what's up?  I'm Jacoby I sing for Papa Roach."  Which of course they all knew!

Seth also told a story about Jelly Rolls manager asking for an elevator pitch, which he messed up at the time but has loaded now.  He says Widow7 "Gives you the nut kick guarantee.  If we've wasted your time you can kick me in the nuts."

This is just the start for the fast-growing Iowa-based rock band.  Widow7 will be putting out a new EP next month.  They have their own EP release party in April in Des Moines.  Then another new song will follow shortly after.  Plus a couple of music videos will be popping up soon.  Then it's festival and tour season which already includes Welcome To Rockville in Florida and Rockfest in Wisconsin.

Follow Widow7 on all their socials so as they grow you can keep track of everything they are doing.

We also talked about their influences, the coolest moments they've had already out on tour, and more randomness that happens when any band talks with me.  Take a listen to the full thing right here.

Alborn EP Release Party at The Redstone Room in Davenport

The party was always going to be bangin, but it turned out to also be one of the most lit concerts I-Rock 93.5 has been a part of. Alborn, Discrepancies, Widow7, and The Forty Twos fired it up on a Saturday night in downtown Davenport for an unforgettable night of rock.

Skillet, Theory of a Deadman and Saint Asonia at the Sold Out Show at The Rust Belt

It was an incredible night with a few thousand friends at The Rust Belt with Skillet, Theory of a Deadman, and Saint Asonia. The sold-out show rocked from front to back. And if you were standing in the back enjoying the sound and sites, but wondered what they would look like if those sites were closer, here are some great shots from Captured by Lorraine.
