Before Set It Off brought the energy to the Capitol Theatre in Davenport, they brought it to I-Rock 93.5 for another exclusive Live Lounge with listeners.  Early in the morning while on tour they were ready to talk and hang and set the tone for a great day.

Set It Off has been on a journey longer than you might think.  Below, you can hear the full podcast in our latest episode of I-Rock with Rock Stars.

Set If Off is Cody Carson on vocals, Zach DeWall on bass, and Maxx Danziger on drums.  Over the last few years they have started to grow in the rock world, but Set It Off has been doing it since 2008.

Cody says in high school he was in a band called "One More Shot" because he thought it would be his last shot at music.  When that band didn't make it Cody went off to college.  While in college Cody studied clarinet and then started doing covers on YouTube.  He said "I started covering this band All Time Low and the singer started looking at it.  So I asked him if I could sing on stage with you.  Just to get that taste to be on stage again.  After that show, I went home and called my mom at like 3 in the morning and told her I have to drop out of school."

Cody then got Zach and shortly after Maxx joined.  Cody went into detail on the process of pushing to make it a career.  All the hard work paid off as the band now has millions of streams, top 40 hits in the world of rock, and has performed to thousands across the world.

The Evolution Of Set It Off

Every band evolves.  Metallica from 1984 is not the same as 2024.  Set It Off has a lot of musical inspiration from all of the members.

When they started out they were covering All Time Low so that is what they sounded like.  But as time goes by things change.

"Why aren't we including the roots of what I was going to do in what we were doing now?  Then we leaned more toward Alternative and then Indy.  Then we wanted to go back to the aggression we had and that's when we went Independent and wrote Punching Bag".

Cody said, "It's been such a fun journey trying all these sounds out.  You don't have to follow a rule book.  You're supposed to do this because you love it.  And this is the most fun we've been having in our entire career."

What's Next For Set It Off

Of course, we want to talk about what's next!  Always more right.  Well, they will be bringing back an old track in a new way.  "Wolf In Sheeps Clothing (REBORN)" will be the next single from the band.  The song was done years ago in one of those different styles but Set It Off has reworked it to sound more like the style they are doing now and are excited to have fans hear it again or for the first time.

What Else Did We Talk About With Set It Off?

  • How they came up with the name of the band?  (Thanks Fall Out Boy)
  • What rituals do they have pre and post-show?
  • The art of cover songs.
  • What do they think of the new Linkin Park (Which Cody said perfectly)
  • And their most embarrassing moments on stage which include a terrible drink choice.
