Welcome to another I-Rock with Rock Stars.  The guys from Riding With Killers rolled into the studio between gigs to talk about the band, new music, new album, and some wild stuff that already went down in the Quad Cities.

Taylor has been around the Quad Cities a few times.  Riding with Killers has performed in Fulton, Clinton, and Iowa City.  But also, Taylor is the guitar player for Taproot.  Yes, he was there on that fateful night.

If you missed it at The Rust Belt, the lead singer of Taproot, Stephen Richards, jumped from the balcony above the crowd.  You can watch it again on Facebook.

Taylor said, "It was such a fun night of awesome nu-metal."  I asked if anybody knew that he would jump off the balcony.  "If Steve has a balcony that he can jump off, he's going to jump off it," Taylor said.

"Everybody was like, no, not this one, and then of course Steve made his way up.  I'm always scared when he does a second-story jump, but this was like a third-story jump.  That's the longest distance I've seen Steve jump.  That made my heart sink.  I was like, I'm about to watch my singer die."

Of course, he didn't, and it was a moment that will live in infamy.

Taylor started the idea of the band in 2018.  While the record came out in December of 2023, Taylor was working on songs in 2019.  It's been a long time coming, but this is Taylor's baby, and he's now pouring everything into it.

Now, Riding With Killers is doing everything they can to get on the road and play their creation in front of people.  "I just got approved to buy a nice new vehicle, and James told me exactly what to get, and now that we have it, there are no excuses to get on the road."

As you can see from the above picture, Taylor also played live in the studio for us on his new Martin guitar.  In the below podcast, you can listen to a brand new song that Taylor is going to have on the new album.  It's called House on Fire, and as you are hearing it in the podcast, it's sort of how you'll hear it on the album.  Acoustic with just him and a guitar.

Taylor said they are still working on the new album, but there is no timeline right now as far as putting it out.  "I'm taking my time with this.  I don't want to just fart this record out to the world."

While you wait for the new album, you can listen to the song that is making its way around the radio (well, good radio like I-Rock 93.5) called World Apart right here.

Taylor and James also talked about:

  • The wild story of how he came up with the name "Riding With Killers".
  • How he worked with "We Came As Romans" on the logo.
  • He talked deeper into the recording process of the new album.
  • The art of making records vs. singles.
  • Playing Machine Shop
  • And much more...

Illegal Pets In The Quad Cities

Every state has laws when it comes to owning pets. No matter how badly you want these pets, you could see some fines for having them.
