Listen To Autumn Kings Interview and Performance With I-Rock 93.5
It's always a good time when bands stop by the Rock & Roll Mansion to play live for I-Rock 93.5. And it's great when we can do it in the Live Lounge with listeners. What really makes it all come together is when the band sounds next level! Autumn Kings did just that.
We have the full interview along with FOUR live songs in the full podcast below.
Autumn Kings
Autumn Kings is Jake Diab and Joseph (Joe) Coccimiglio. Drummer Troy Dawdy didn't make the trip, but was there in spirit in pictures on the TV.
Jake and Joe started making music together in Detroit (technically, Ontario) after Jake was fired from his grocery store job in Canada for letting his buddy steal a Reese's Peanut Butter cup. He said, "I realized I was totally unemployable, so it was either this (full into music) or be under a bridge." Lucky for us, he chose music over the bridge.
Autumn Kings might be new to you, but they have been around for 10 years. Jake said, "Year one, we actually did acoustic gigs 2 to 3 days a week to fund our original album. We'd play 3 to 4 hours of cover songs in bars for drunk women named Debbie who were 60 who wanted to flirt with Joe."
All the work paid off, and now they are only playing for slightly intoxicated people in a Davenport radio station. They are also traveling the world, as they talked about playing huge festivals and playing a US Military base for troops in Japan.
I-Rock Live Lounge
We talked about a bunch of stuff, but they also brought in their gear and played some songs for us. Which were great. They were one of the best bands to ever play live in the Rock & Roll Mansion. Seriously, when we have these opportunities (even on a Tuesday at 5 pm), you need to take advantage with us. Cause it was a one-time opportunity.
Autumn Kings played "Sleep When I'm Dead", "Snake Charmer", a cover of SOAD's "Lonely Day", and their new hit "Hellbound". That is the only one I won't be able to play on the radio due to the cussing. But you can certainly listen to it below.
Now I asked the standard question when bands come in and play acoustic, "You wrote those electric and then changed them to acoustic, what was that process like?". Well, that was a dumb question, or I guess statement. Cause Jake actually said, "What we've done a lot more in the last 5 or 6 years is start a song on an acoustic or a piano. And the thinking is that if it sounds good on an acoustic, then it will only sound that much better when produced". And the song "Snake Charmer" is one of those that started on the acoustic.

Hellbound is the new hit song from Autumn Kings, and the guys said, "It's about reflecting on the current era we're all in, but saying we don't have to be there forever." That is song one on the podcast below.
At times, the podcast will get a bit wacky as the audience in the Rock & Roll Mansion didn't follow the rules about talking into the mic. Yeah, I'm calling you guys out. Haha. Nah, you were all great...but seriously, talk into the mic.
Enjoy the interview. Enjoy the songs. Get to know Autumn Kings. They are personable. They are working hard. And they are super talented. That is the combination needed to soon not be playing in an old funeral home in Davenport on a Tuesday night. Thank you to Jake and Joe for a great, unforgettable night!
