Before you even begin to build your vehicle's winter emergency kit, the Iowa Department of Transportation wants to remind you to have your vehicle winter-ready.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reminds motorists to bring their vehicle in for a winter tune-up, always make sure you have gas in your vehicle, replace those windshield wipers, and, if your car needs it, install winter tires for better traction in the snow. After you're done winterizing your vehicle, then make sure you have your emergency winter kit built and in an easy-to-reach spot in case you need to use it.
After your car is winterized, it's time to create your vehicle's winter emergency kit. You can purchase pre-built kits at stores like Walmart and Target, but they don't come with everything on this list. If you decide to buy a premade kit, make sure you add the missing items to your emergency kit right away.
