The Hunter’s Moon Is Coming to the Quad Cities Before Halloween
October is already spooky enough, but the night sky is getting in on the fun. The next full moon will be the Hunter’s Moon, and it will light up the Quad Cities on Sunday night, October 25, 2026.
When Can You See It?
The Hunter’s Moon will rise around 5:32 p.m. in the Davenport area, giving you a great chance to see it near the eastern horizon. It will reach peak fullness around 11:13 p.m.
You don't need a telescope to enjoy it. Find a spot with a clear view of the eastern sky, and you're good to go.
This year's Hunter’s Moon is also a supermoon, meaning it can appear slightly larger and brighter than a typical full moon.

Why Is It Called the Hunter’s Moon?
The Hunter’s Moon traditionally follows the Harvest Moon. October was historically a major hunting season because crops had been harvested and animals were well-fed and easier to spot in open fields.
The bright full moon also gave hunters extra light in the evening.
And What About the Weird Moon Theories?
Full moons have been surrounded by strange beliefs for centuries. Some people have claimed they cause people to act differently, disrupt sleep, increase crime, or even bring more babies into the world.
There’s also the classic idea that a full moon can make people go “crazy.” That's where words like “lunacy” come from.
But there isn't strong scientific evidence that a full moon causes people to suddenly lose their minds.
And no, the Hunter’s Moon isn't a “Blood Moon.” That term refers to a total lunar eclipse, when Earth's shadow makes the Moon appear reddish.
So grab a hoodie, step outside, and enjoy the show. Just don't blame the Moon if your neighbor starts acting weird.... he's always been weird.
