Here's The Information You Need To Make Sure Your Gift Packages Show Up Where They're Supposed To By Christmas

Some states have it easier than we do, but as an Illinois resident, it’s especially important to plan ahead because winter weather, high package volumes, and last-mile delivery delays can impact timely arrivals, even within the continental US.

Let's get started with the ship-by deadlines that the major carriers have announced.

For USPS customers, here are the key dates for shipments within the Lower 48 states: Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail should be sent by Wednesday, December 17, Priority Mail by Thursday, December 18, and Priority Mail Express by Saturday, December 20. For those shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, or international destinations, deadlines arrive earlier, so check the USPS website to be sure your gifts arrive on time.

Here Are More Dates And Deadlines

UPS has its own set of recommended dates. UPS 3 Day Select packages should be shipped by Friday, December 19, 2nd Day Air by Monday, December 22, and Next Day Air by Tuesday, December 23. Keep in mind that UPS Ground delivery times vary based on origin and destination, so be sure to use the UPS online calculator for Illinois shipments.

FedEx customers should plan accordingly as well. Ground Economy shipments are recommended by Monday, December 15, while Express Saver is Saturday, December 20. FedEx 2 Day or 2 Day AM shipments should be sent by Monday, December 22, and Overnight services by Tuesday, December 23. Like UPS, FedEx transit times may fluctuate depending on Illinois pickup locations and winter weather conditions.

Here's Something To Keep In Mind...

A few tips for Illinois shippers from all the major carriers would include starting early to avoid last-minute stress. If you’re sending gifts to northern states or international destinations, give yourself a wider buffer. Always double-check carrier websites for updated transit times, service suspensions, and seasonal surcharges.

Planning ahead ensures your gifts arrive on time and saves you the headache of rushed shipments. Whether sending a homemade gift, toys, or tech gadgets, following these ship-by dates can keep your holidays merry and bright.
