If you're starting have feelings of deja vu, you aren't alone. Fun events are getting cancelled in the Quad Cities because of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and mandates in Illinois.

In early June the Village of Milan announced there would be no July 3 fireworks because of the pandemic. The firework display was rescheduled for Monday, September 6.

According to Angie Sharp from WQAD, the Village of Milan has announced there will be NO fireworks on September 6, 2021. Mayor Duane Dawson has canceled fireworks again, because of the COVID surge in cases in our area.

According to Milan Mayor Duane Dawson, "we canceled the fireworks on July 3rd because of the COVID pandemic. We are canceling again because of increasing COVID numbers and the danger of fire from the dryness of the weather. We hope to resume the show next July."

WQAD is also reporting Genesis Health Systems is currently out of hospital beds for patients hospitalized with Covid-19. They say one non-Covid-emergency bed remains open at each campus.

This is getting scary again. It's also scary that UnityPoint Health Trinity is closing its ICU unit in Bettendorf, to better consolidate resources and staff at the Rock Island campus.

You don't have to do much research to know both Quad City hospital systems, Genesis and Unity Point Trinity are experiencing at capacity ICUs managing the care of mostly unvaccinated COVID patients. It's also no secret that both hospital systems are experiencing staffing shortages.

This isn't a good time to be hospitalized.

If you've been waiting to get vaccinated Genesis is reminding you the FDA has approved the Pfizer vaccine and they're encouraging everyone to get vaccinated. Here's a list of walk-in clinics.

You can also get your vaccine at nearly all Quad City area drug stores and pharmacies. Get more information at The Illinois and Iowa Departments of Health. https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/vaccine-faq  https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/
