An incident on the I-74 pedestrian bridge last weekend that left one person dead has now claimed the life of an 18-year-old man.

According to the Moline Police Department, Anthony Castaneda from Moline has died after injuries he sustained from being hit by a car on the pedestrian bridge. He was pronounced dead yesterday. This marks the second death in the incident.

The incident happened last Sunday when a Cadillac Escalade traveled the near-entire length of the I-74 pedestrian bridge from Bettendorf to 200 yards away from the Moline exit, hitting 3 people in the process. Chhabria Harris of East Moline is accused of being the drunk driver of the car. 21-year-old Ethan Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene. Castaneda was one of the other two people hit. The third person, who is still unidentified, remains in critical condition.

Formal charges against Harris were filed on Monday. She is already facing 10 charges in connection to the incident, one of those being a reckless homicide charge in the death of Gonzales. She could face additional charges going forward. Currently, she is being held on a $2 million bond in the Rock Island County Jail. The criminal investigation into the incident continues as Harris is expected to make her first court appearance on June 7th.

Meanwhile, the I-74 Mississippi River Bridge Project responded to the incident earlier this week, planning to put in temporary measures like large concrete planters, new signage, and pavement markings to help curtail things like this from happening again.
