If there’s one thing Dave Portnoy can’t resist, it’s pizza, and if there’s one thing Illinois can’t resist, it’s waiting to see if “El Presidente” will give us bragging rights or crush our doughy dreams.

Last week, Barstool Sports’ top mouthpiece rolled into Champaign. Not for a pizza pilgrimage, mind you, but because Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff planted itself in town for the Illinois vs. USC game. Naturally, Portnoy did what he always does: hunt down a local pie and film himself eating it on the sidewalk.

The “One Bite” Setup We All Know

If you’ve watched any of his “One Bite” reviews, you know the routine: he sizes up the crust, drops a one-liner, and then takes that signature bite. Sometimes he loves it, sometimes he looks like he’s regretting every life decision that led him to that slice.

So, Where Did He Go in Illinois?

This time, Portnoy landed at Papa Del’s Pizza Factory on South Neil Street, according to pjstar.com. But instead of their famous deep dish, he went thin—tavern-style thin. He even joked about the 50-minute wait for the pie.

Portnoy’s Illinois Pizza Review Score

The verdict? He said, “A little puffier than a true tavern-style”, zero crisp, but still solid. Papa Del’s earned a 7.1 out of 10. Not bad.

He’s hit other Illinois spots too—worth a click if you want to see how the rest of the state stacks up.

He’s been to Wisconsin, too.
