Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, Jon Budmayr Suspended For Recruiting Violation
Early this morning the news broke that Iowa's head coach Kirk Ferentz and assistant Jon Budmayr will be suspended for a violation related to the recruitment of transfer quarterback Cade McNamara, according to ESPN.
Cade McNamara committed to Iowa on December 1st, 2022 just three days after entering the portal as a graduate transfer. He started playing for Michigan in 2021 as the team won their Big Ten and made the College Football Playoff, but his season ended when he took a leg injury in the third game of the 2022 season.
McNamara began the 2023 season as the team's starter, but now he and Northwestern transfer Brendan Sullivan have been competing for the starting position during camp.
The two coaches will miss the August 31st season opener against Illinois State but will return in time for the rivalry game against Iowa State in Week 2.
Ferentz, the longest-tenured coach in college football as he enters into his 26th season with Iowa, is set to address the suspension in a press conference at 1:30pm Thursday.
