Dogster and Catster Magazine are running a contest that will give one cat and one dog their time to shine in the magazine and give their owner $5,000 to spend on more treats and chew toys. Last year, Willow, a 4 ½-year-old rough-coated Collie, and Tom, a 12-year-old female tabby, were able to secure the crown.

So, other than being from the Quad Cities, why should you vote for Molly as America's Favorite Dog?

Molly is so unique and has the greatest personality. She’s a sweet cuddle bug one minute and then an absolute goofball the next. She randomly gets the zoomies inside and outside jumping over anything that gets in her way (including her brothers). Molly is ornery, a typical trait for Pugs, but definitely a lover. She loves to give kisses and just be near or on you.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
