Students in the Quad Cities are gearing up for the 2022-2023 school year. With students returning back to school, that means school zones return to make sure motorists slow down and stay alert for the safety of these kids. The Davenport Police Department is helping folks prepare for the return of school zones by conducting special traffic enforcement in those school zones.

Slow down and stay alert! That's what the Davenport Police Department wants you to remember as kiddos in Davenport and throughout the Quad Cities return to learn.

All summer, motorists haven't needed to follow the school zone signs because school wasn't in session. Kids in Davenport begin school on Tuesday and that means we all need to slow down to at least 25 mph as we pass through school zones.

The Davenport Police Department took to social media Friday morning to remind everyone to obey posted speed limits and pay special attention to school speed zones. Davenport PD wants to help keep kids safe as they return to class for the new school year and to do so, they will be out conducting special traffic enforcement in school zones this week.

The Davenport Community School District also took to social media reminding students, parents, faculty, and the rest of us when school starts for the district. Even though the little kiddos don't start until mid to late next week, all school speed zones go into effect on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

Classes for grades 1st through 12th begin on Tuesday, August 23rd. Grades 10th to 12th will be getting out early on Tuesday at the high schools in Davenport due to freshmen orientation.

Kindergarteners begin on Wednesday, August 24th, and all preschoolers return to learn on Thursday, August 25th.
