Muscatine County Fair Grandstand And Grounds Events Cancelled
Add the Muscatine County Fair to the growing list of events cancelled this summer because of the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, officials from the Muscatine County Fair announced on Facebook that they have decided to cancel grandstand entertainment and ground events this year. Officials from the Muscatine County Fair said they are cancelling those events this year "out of an abundance of caution."
In the announcement on social media, officials said,
"After discussions with the Public Health Department, Muscatine County 4-H, Muscatine County Board of Supervisors, and other partners, the fair board decided this was the necessary decision to keep Muscatine county residents safe and healthy."
Officials from the Muscatine County Fair continued by saying,
"Due to the substantial number of positive cases and the incredibly large number of reported deaths in Muscatine County in comparison to our neighboring counties, the public health department recommends that people stay home that are sick, but we also know the virus spreads asymptomatically."
The announcement says that the decision to cancel these events were based off of many factors that include public health recommendations, CDC and government guidelines, (like practicing social distancing and venues only being at 50% capacity), volunteer need, and other factors.
Events that are postponed because of this decision include:
- Fair Stock Car Races
- Truck Drag Races
- Tractor Pull
- Mo Pitney & Neal McCoy Concert
- Trailer Races
- Demo Derby
- Carnival
- Grounds Entertainment
- All open classes
- The queen contest
The Muscatine County Fair board says that they are continuing to look for ways the community can enjoy some fair-related events virtually during the fair week. You can look for those announcements on the Muscatine County Fair Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
The Muscatine County 4-H says that they are also working on plans for Muscatine County youth to exhibit what they have learned during this program year. When the Muscatine County 4-H has that information, they will be contacting youth, families, and volunteers involved.
Officials also said that 2020 fair tickets will not be accepted for the 2021 Muscatine County Fair. They are asking ticket holds to consider their tickets and sponsorships as a donation to the fair. If anyone who purchased a ticket for the 2020 fair wants a refund, they need to contact the fair office by July 31st.
Officials are also working on rescheduling entertainment for the 2021 Muscatine County Fair.
Muscatine County Fair officials ended their announcement by saying,
"The postponement of open class, grandstand and grounds entertainment is a decision that was not taken lightly. While we are all deeply saddened by the outcome, we know this is what is best to keep our county residents, volunteers, vendors, and exhibitors safe and healthy. We will be back stronger than ever come July 2021!"
