Sarah Pratt is the sculpter behind the butter horse which will be on display daily during the 2025 Mississippi Valley Fair in the Exhibit Hall
Sarah started sculpting at age 14 and took over for Norma “Duffy” Lyon at the Iowa State Fair when she retired.
Sarah works with her family, daughters Hanna & Grace, who also stated sculpting at age 14.
Sarah is the current designer for the Iowa State Fair and Illinois State Fair as well.
The Iconic Iowa State Fair Butter Cow that Sarah and her team created will be on display this year at the Smithsonian, celebrating state fairs around the country.
Yeah, it's hot...but don't worry. This butter won't melt. The cooler is kept at a cool 42 degrees to keep the butter horse looking like a horse and not your melted butter on your morning toast.
Sarah uses 1200 pounds of salted butter on the butter horse. Why salted? It's because it can last longer and can be reused on other projects.
Check out the butter horse at this year's Mississippi Valley Fair. Get your tickets, fun cards, and more information here. We'll see you there!
