Kevin Martin has been making music with Candlebox since 1993.  After nearly 30 years of making music and touring some might think Kevin would be happy that things slowed down and he could just relax now.  That is not the case as Candlebox is ready to hit the road for a long tour to support their new album.

The tour kicks off in Louisville, KY on August 5th and runs until November 6th, ending in Candlebox’s hometown of Seattle where the final two Seattle shows on November 5th and 6th will both feature Candlebox’s original lineup.  During this 3 month run, you have a chance to see them with a drive to Riverfest in Fort Madison, IA on Friday, August 6th.

Today I got to talk with Kevin, and of course like any interview I do, it was randomly all over the place.  We started talking about of course, what he has been up to the last 17 months.  For Kevin, he said it was "really the greatest thing to happen to me" because for the majority of the time during his child's 13 years, he's been out on the road.  However for the last 2 years, he's been able to stay home and be a husband and father.

Now that Kevin is back on the road, what is he looking forward to the most?  He told me it was you, the fans.  "Every musician would tell you that there is so much joy you get from sharing our art and craft with the people that love what we do."  And for Kevin, it doesn't matter if it's the super fan that he see's at four shows in a row, or somebody at a festival discovering the band for the first time.

Candlebox has a new record coming out, that Kevin told me was done since just before the pandemic started.  But he told the label that he wasn't releasing the album until they could get back on the road.  So, look for "Wolves" Candlebox’s seventh studio album on September 17, 2021. Two songs from Wolves, “Let Me Down Easy” and “My Weakness,” are available to stream now.

We got to talking about what his setlist would look like for the upcoming tour and he said it would be a mix of new and old.  He knows fans want to hear "Far Behind" and "You" but the band has a 30 year career and there is a lot of stuff to choose from.  Kevin told me the story of a show he did where things went a little different.  "One time we were in some town and like second song in people started yelling for Far Behind.  So I said, OK, we played it, got it done with and didn't play it again.  I think people missed it that showed up a little late."

We also talked about his best family vacation, new music he's grooving on, movies he's been watching and his go to Karaoke song.  And yes, he actually has sung Candlebox for Karaoke cause a guy at the bar didn't know who Candlebox was.
