Iowans Might Not Be Able To Watch The Hawkeyes This Weekend
It's not football season without a television provider dispute and blacked out channels.
Bad news, Hawk fans. Fox is in a carriage contract dispute with YouTube TV, and if an agreement isn't reached, that means a blackout is coming just in time for the Hawkeyes' Opening Weekend.
There's still time to get it figured out before the first regular-season NFL games start, but the problem is, many of this weekend's college football games will most likely not be available to those who subscribe to YouTubeTV - including the Hawkeyes kick off on Saturday.
If an agreement is not met by Wednesday, August 27th, at 4pm CST, all Fox channels will not be available on the platform, according to their website dedicated to the issue, KeepFox.com.
Yes, that includes:
- Big Ten Network (BTN)
- Fox
- Fox Business
- Fox Deportes
- Fox News
- Fox Soccer Plus
- Fox Soul
- Fox Sports 1
- Fox Sports 1 4K
- Fox Sports 2
- Fox Weather
- LiveNow from Fox
“Our current agreement with Fox is approaching its renewal date and we are in active and ongoing negotiations to continue carrying their content,” YouTube TV wrote in a statement. “Fox is asking for payments that are far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive. Our priority is to reach a deal that reflects the value of their content and is fair for both sides without passing on additional costs to our subscribers."
YouTubeTV also said that if the agreement isn't reached for an "extended period of time" they will credit $10 to all their members.
If we do lose Fox on YouTube TV, you can subscribe to Fox One this weekend for $19.99 a month, and there's a 7 day free trial... should cover through the opening weekend if you cancel once the game's over.
