Illinois Baseball Team To Drop Thousands Of Hot Dogs From Sky In World Record Attempt
The stunt is being termed as the 'Wiener Drop'.
At any sporting event, major or minor league, there's some kind of creativity that goes into ways to keep people entertained during breaks in play. And this one is definitely creative.
NBC Chicago reports that the Joliet Slammers baseball team is planning to drop 2,600 packaged hot dogs onto a game. Why?
The team is trying to break a world record: the most hot dogs dropped in an hour from a helicopter. So in an inning break, fans will be able to enjoy the rained-down hot dogs.
Slammers owner and EVP Night Train Veeck said in a release:
We’ve done a lot of wild promotions at the ballpark — but dropping 2,600 hot dogs from a helicopter for fans to eat to attempt a world record? That’s a new one, even for us.
The "Wiener Drop" will be July 22nd at 6:35 p.m. at a game against the Gateway Grizzlies.
The Slammers say tickets are selling fast for the game (go figure) but they haven't announced further important details, like what brand of hot dogs they will be dropping.
Along with the raining hot dogs, there will also be $2 Pabst Light beers. Because you can't have one without the other at a baseball game.
The Guinness World Records book certainly has some random world records in it but I couldn't find any pre-existing record for specifically 'the most hot dogs dropped in one hour from a helicopter'. But I can't imagine the Slammers would ever get beat with this specific title, if they do break a record.
