Starting May 1st, a traffic pattern change will be coming to Moline's John Deere Road.

John Deere Road (which to me feels like the Quad Cities' wild Autobahn) is going to have a new traffic pattern, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The change will be on John Deere Road between 16th Street and 35th Street.

Here's what they're doing:

  • Eastbound John Deere Road will be one lane from 27th Street to I-74
  • For 3 weeks, that eastbound lane on JDR to the I-74 southbound ramp will be closed.
  • If you want to get on I-74 southbound, you'll have to follow the detour signs that will take you to the John Deere Road/I-74 interchange.

They're doing work on the JDR bridges over 27th & 74, which includes things like an expansion joint replacement, deck patching, and hot-mix asphalt resurfacing. It's a $7 million project that's expected to be done by the end of October. This all starts on May 1st so we'll probably be dealing with it for a while.

As with all of the construction in the QC, you should change around your route if you have to go through this spot on a daily commute or leave early if you can't avoid it. There will be signage to watch for as well as workers in the area so make sure you slow down.
