Your Movie & Song Suggestions Are Heard By The Band Says Joe Occhiuti of Ice Nine Kills
Before Ice Nine Kills walked on stage at The Rust Belt in East Moline, we got to catch up with bass, backing vocals, and keyboard player Joe Occhiuti.
During our time, we of course shared what movies we'd like to see turned into songs, and he assured us that our voices, and those of all the fans, are heard when they suggest movies to sing about.
Ice Nine Kills Back At The Rust Belt
It's been 4 years since Ice Nine Kills rocked the Rust Belt. Sorry to the random guy who stopped me in the Rust Belt to remind me it's only been 4 years since last time they were here, not 5 years like I said while I was on stage. My bad, time is a blur with everything we have going on.
It was 4 years ago when Rainy Day was new, and at the time, it seemed to fit not just the movie Resident Evil, but also what was going on in life, coming off the pandemic. Joe said, "It was a happy coincidence. Spencer is very much into movies more than any of us. If he's not identifying with the content, it's going to be an uphill battle."
Ice Nine Kills' new song, "The Great Unknown", is about the Matrix, and AI has been in the news a lot lately. Joe said, "We definitely had conversations about it, so maybe subconsciously it works out with the imagery we were going for."
The Band Hears You When You Give Them Suggestions
Becky said she was disappointed they didn't do the Happy Gilmore song they were teasing, and Joe said, "It's hard to get into the comedy stuff cause we're already borderline Weird Al.".
It's not just radio people asking or suggesting movies to do. Joe says, "Multiple times a day," they get suggestions. "At least a few in VIP, messages online, and stuff like that. We do hear them, there are just a lot of movies."
The Crowds Keep Growing, But They Keep Learning
As their crowds and fans continue to grow, they also learn from those around them. Joe talked about their tour with Metallica and how amazing it was, and how great the band was to them.
We also talked about the video for The Great Unknown, what else he's been listening to, and he turned the tables and asked Becky in Black questions about what songs she likes most.
