Earlier today (Friday) Hy-Vee announced that dozens of positions will be eliminated from the company.

KCCI in Des Moines reports that the company scrapped 57 positions in this new round of layoffs. This brings the total of positions that Hy-Vee has eliminated to 415. The capacity of the jobs that were cut includes ones that were in IT, real estate, construction, engineering, and equipment.

Hy-Vee says that the persons impacted by this round of layoffs were offered retail positions and 30 days of pay and benefits.

Last week, Hy-Vee asked 500 corporate employees if they would take on retail positions.

Here's what the company said in their Friday release:

Today’s announcement, combined with other employee transitions that have occurred at our corporate offices in recent weeks, has reduced our corporate office staff by a total of more than 415 positions. These transitions have come in the form of employees transferring to leadership positions at retail, taking early retirement, or voluntarily leaving the company to seek other opportunities. We feel confident that these changes will help us be better prepared for the potential economic difficulties to come.

This comes as the company says that they are facing multiple economic obstacles that include rising fuel costs, inflation, and supply chain disruption.

Meanwhile, just this week in Davenport, we've learned that a Hy-Vee bakery/regional pharmacy is set to open up inside the former Gordman's building, which has sat empty for 2 years on Elmore Avenue. However, there's no opening date set on that yet.
