The New Redstone Room Is Open For Live Music at Common Chord

It was a big move, but not a far move.  The new Redstone Room is now open in the same building it's been in for years, but just down one floor.

I was able to look through the building and see what things look like and what more is still to come for a great new venue for live music in the Quad Cities.

There are still people who don't know where the Redstone Room is.  When located on the second floor, it's hard to put out signage and show who you are and what you have going on.  But now with street-level views, the shows coming will have plenty of window space to promote the new home of the Redstone Room.

In a fully seated show, like the one above, Sean Ryan, Performance Programs Manager at Common Chord, says it can fit about 150 people.  But if you start moving tables, you can start opening up tickets.

Take out all those low tables and leave the high-tops; the new Redstone Room could hold 300 or even 400 people...especially if it's summer.

You can see off to the right of the above picture some windows.  Those big windows will be turned into "garage door" style windows that will open up the Redstone Room to the courtyard in front of the Skybridge, giving it indoor-outdoor availability.

Of course it's not just about spacing. It's about sound!  Common Chord spent some big money upgrading their sound system.  And this isn't the end of it.  Those speakers on the ground are temporary while they get permanent ones in place.

Plus, on the stage there will be a screen for bands to showcase their visual assets.

One of the biggest problems with the upstairs Redstone Room was the bar.  It was a long bar along the side wall.  It really cut off the room and would make it hard to maneuver around the area.  But now, this big, beautiful bar in the back of the room is ready to serve drinks and not be in the way.

This is a great little touch.  On the opposite side of the big stage is this stage for little acoustic performances.

The Ellis Kell Community Stage will be a place where anybody from ages 11-100 can show off their love for music.  If you are unfamiliar with Ellis and his impact on local music, check out more on him from the Central Iowa Blues Society.
