A New Facebook Group Helps You Find a Ride in the Quad Cities

Do you need a ride somewhere in the Quad Cities?  Little short on cash?  There is a new Facebook group that is here to help you out.

The private group is called "Find a ride in the Quad Cities" and was started by Frank Castle.  On the group you'll find people asking for help to get a ride somewhere, people offering free rides and tips and advice on what to use and how much it would cost.

About Find a Ride in the Quad Cities

On the Facebook group page, they state "Need a ride? This group was designed for residents in the Quad Cities and surrounding cities to locate transportation options that best suit their needs. Residents can make posts offering rides for cash, card or simply helping someone out. Keep in mind also this is a helping someone out group and we’re here to help those in need. Simply make a post asking for a ride or offer a helping hand to someone who needs a ride. Those who do catch rides please post who gave you a ride and if that person made you pay money or was kind enough to help someone in need."

How did Find a Ride in the Quad Cities get started?

I chatted with the creator and admin of the page Frank Castle who told me he moved to the Quad Cities 5 years ago not knowing anyone or even having been here before.

Frank came from a small dead-end town where he says "you don’t have to worry about crazy drivers and accidents happening or even getting insurance on your car".  So he didn't have insurance and about 7 months after living here he got hit from behind me by a drunk driver.  The speed limit was 30 and Frank was hit so hard he flipped up 3 times like a cartwheel and landed upside down and spun into the middle of the street.

Without insurance, Frank lost his vehicle. During his first 7 months living here, Frank had never made any friends so he had no one to turn to. Work people told him about the swap sites online and that is when he decided to come up with the idea of creating the “Find a ride in the Quad Cities".

Frank says it’s working. He's ironically never had to use it to find a ride, but he sees the success stories on the page.  Franks says he listens to the station and always hears about the events and concerts going on and thought it would be great to let people know, rides are out there in the Quad Cities.
