Parents, guardians, and families of students attending the Davenport Community School District received notification this afternoon that the district would no longer be requiring masks.

An email sent to parents and guardians explained that a federal court decision ruled that a statewide injunction against the Iowa Mask Ban was not necessary.

As a result of today’s ruling the Davenport Community School District will remove all mandatory masking requirements for students and staff throughout the district effective immediately per Iowa law. Students and staff who choose to mask may continue to do so. In compliance with the President’s Executive Order on all domestic transportation, students are still required to wear a face covering while on the school bus or while utilizing other District provided transportation.

The email was signed by Dan Gosa, the Board President of the Davenport Community School District.

While still required when using district transportation or school buses, students will now have the choice in removing their mask during school hours and on district properties.
