Centennial Bridge Repairs Start Now & You’ll Be Dealing With It For Weeks
Is it really a week in the Quad Cities without more road work?
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that work will begin on August 18th on Centennial Bridge. They're doing structural steel repairs on the bridge.
It will result in lane closures over the bridge for a few weeks. IDOT says that the bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction. To start, the northbound lanes will be open, with the southbound lanes closed for the repairs.
The southbound lane work will take about 2-3 weeks to complete then the work will shift over into the northbound lanes. No word on how long it will take to complete the whole thing, but if it's moving at that rate, it could be 4-6 weeks until it's done.
The pedestrian bridge won't be affected by the work but if you're driving, obviously you'll encounter it. And the project is ongoing so it won't be leaving us anytime soon. As you are heading out, leave early to allow for the delay or find another route to get across the river.
