9.35 Questions with Ice Nine Kills; What All Psychos Want to Know
They say the best ideas come to you when you least expect them, and that's exactly how 9.35 Questions came about. I literally woke up from a deep sleep with the idea to ask random pop culture personalities 9.35 questions ranging from topical to comical. Nine standard questions, and .35 of a question to round things out. I figured the best place to start would be with one of my favorite bands who just happen to be making a stop in the Quad Cities in a couple of weeks at The Rust Belt, Ice Nine Kills. Below are the questions I sent to Ricky Armellino, guitarist of Ice Nine Kills, and his responses to each question.
Question 1. If you could write a song about a non-horror movie, what would it be and why?
"I want to write love songs about Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny because, c'mon."
Question 2. Ice Nine Kills is known for their cinematic music videos. What's the craziest thing you've done during a video shoot?
"I lacerated my eye a few years back so getting fx contacts in was pretty intense/dark experience. Took about 10 minutes and 2 makeup techs to make it happen."
Question 3. Who would win in a fight; Ronald McDonald or The King from Burger King?
"The King from Burger King is clearly killing more than children. Ronald's used to smaller victims I think. So probably the King."
Question 4. I'm so excited for Currents to be opening for you guys! I'm a big fan of their song "Anxiety" that you are featured in. Can you tell me how that collab came about?
"They simply emailed me asking if I'd be down and I absolutely was since I was a fan of the band. I had to knock that guest vocal out while my band was loading out for a tour and I was in quite a rush. I'll never forget that day."
Question 5. If you could collaborate with any musician, living or dead who would it be and why?
"I would really, really, like to work with Trent Reznor."
Question 6. Do you believe in ghosts?
"Yes and no. I have had inexplicable experiences but I assume there's a decent explanation for them."
Question 7. How did you guys come up with the idea to do "Jason's Mom"?
"That was all Spencer, he gets tons of these ideas and they're all clever and funny."
Question 8. What's one comfort food you have to have when you're out on the road?
"I eat a lot of quinoa/sweet potato/kale type stuff so every now and then people will refer to a place as having "Ricky food" when it's got lots of options like that."
Question 9. I know that there are a million different horror movies for you guys to choose from, so can you tell me one movie that you had an idea to write about that just didn't make the cut?
"My Home Alone 2 song got cut, unfortunately."
Question .35 I can't remember the last time I...
"....Had to find a Panera Bread for the wifi."
You can catch Ricky and the rest of Ice Nine Kills on the second leg of the Hip-To-Be Scared tour on November 21st at The Rust Belt. Get ticket info here, and enter to win a pair from your Quad Cities concert leader, I-Rock 93.5!
