Yikes, Illinois Is More Attractive Than Iowa According To Scientists
Some very smart people over at Zippa usually create fun rankings of states. They have had the best states to live in, the most fun states, and many others, but they held nothing back with this one. They ranked states based on how attractive they are.
Spoiler Alert... Iowa ranked pretty low which Stings a little bit.
Looks are important to many. About 64% of Americans said the first thing they notice about someone is how attractive they are. While we aren't in the top 10 for looks here in Iowa, at least we avoided the bottom 10.
The Accused Bottom 5 Ugliest States were:
46. South Carolina
47. Arkansas
48. Alabama
49. Missouri
50. Mississippi
I'm sure if you're from one of these states you are the outlier and look fantastic! Now, let's take a look at those elite states I guess...
The top 5 most attractive states were:
1. New Jersey
2. Hawaii
3. California
4. Massachusetts
5. New York
Congratulations if you're from one of those states, must be a nice little ego boost.
Now, where does Iowa Fall on this list?
Iowa ranked on the lower side, but not awful. We sit at number 38. Not great, but still avoiding the bottom 10!
How About Illinois?
If you are on the Illinois side of the QC congrats, you rank higher than Iowa... Illinois ranked 21st! Enjoy that top 50 percentile!
As an Iowan, those results hurt a bit, but congratulations to Illinois for being more attractive than us. Still, we both ranked under the top 10 meaning our states are average.
Neighboring States:
Our neighbors in Minnesota ranked 19th, South Dakota ranked 22nd, Wisconsin ranked 33rd, and Nebraska was 35th. Still all better than Iowa. Except for Missouri who again ranks 49th.
How do they get these numbers?
These results may seem superficial, but there is apparently some science behind them. Zippa stated how they got their info,
We ranked each state in 5 categories:
- Interest in hair, clothes, and other grooming
- Obesity rates
- Percent of physically active residents
- Average Income
- STD rates
They also shared some other results from their study.
That just begs the question of which states are the most attractive. Well, we’ve got the answer. We found the states where people are the least obese, have high activity levels and don’t have STDs.
How high did your state rank?
