Who Was Crowned Miss Iowa This Year?
The crown has been passed on to the newest Miss Iowa.
Over the course of several days in June, women from all over the state gathered in Davenport for the crowning of Iowa's representative for the Miss America pageant.
On June 11th, the reigning title holder Bailey Hodson, crowned Alysa Goethe as Miss Iowa. It has been almost one hundred years since the very first Miss Iowa pageant took place.
The young woman is the Head Vocal Music Director at Hiatt Middle School in Des Moines. Goethe started competing at the age of ten and has held multiple titles in the Miss America Organization over the years.
She graduated summa cum laude at Drake University; and describes herself as an educator, musician, visionary, and diabetic. Alysa's own experience as a diabetic inspired her to take up her social impact initiative, Not Your Type: Advocating for Type 1 Diabetes.
Before being crowned Miss Iowa, Goethe was Miss Polk County.
The winner of this contest goes onto represent the state in the 2024 Miss America pageant that will be held later on this year. There is no set date yet, not is there a location that has been announced publicly.
Last year's crowning took place in December at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. The current Miss America hails from the Midwest. Her name is Grace Stanke and she previously served as Miss Wisconsin before getting the national title.
