Orange barrel season is in full swing in the Quad Cities.  If your route to work is more than a mile, there is a good chance you are running into some kind of construction.

There is a new project starting in Bettendorf that could cause you some delays and some headaches.

Starting on Tuesday, May 12, the City of Bettendorf will begin work on State Street from 17th Street to 23rd Street as crews improve the roadway and sidewalks in the downtown area.
This project includes full-depth concrete patching, utility structure repairs and adjustments, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and other work associated with the replacement of approximately 2,526 square yards of existing pavement and 5,874 square feet of existing sidewalk.
There will be lane closures on State Street that shift from day to day. These lane closures will last for the duration of the project. The first phase of the project will be completed by July 3, 2026, and the second phase will begin after the City of Bettendorf’s 4th of July Parade, if needed and weather permitting.

All those red lines are where you can expect construction right now.  Some are smaller roads you might not drive on, but many are parts of heavily traveled streets.

Middle Road and 53rd are two of the more heavily traveled roads, and of course, the aforementioned State Street construction is on the way as well.  Also, while not listed, always expect some work to be happening on or around the TBK Sports Complex area.

Not shown on the map is 53rd and Utica Ridge.  Cause even though that feels like Bettendorf, it is Davenport.  And it's a hot mess.  It normally is anyway.  But now with the construction, it's best to avoid that intersection.

It really seems unavoidable this time of year.  But improvements must be made.  It's just always best ot prepare for the construction.  Physically, and most importantly, mentally.
