The Number 1 Prospect In The Nation Commits To The Hawkeyes
The number 1 high school wrestling prospect has officially decided where he wants to wrestle in college and he's chosen to be a Hawkeye. He had narrowed his decision down to 3 schools and selected the University of Iowa over Big 10 rival Rutgers. FloWrestling reports Virginia Tech was also in the mix.
Here you can see Angelo make his selection. Iowa Hawkeye wrestling fans will probably enjoy which program's hat he throws to the side!
Angelo is from Melissa, Texas, and according to FloWrestling, he will likely wrestle in the 184-pound weight class. He's hoping to get his collegiate career started as soon as he can and he wants to start competing in his freshman year.
The Hawkeyes are adding a 2x Ironman champion and a Who's Number One champion to their already incredible program. Last season the Hawkeyes finished the year at 15-1 with the only team loss coming against Penn State. Ferrari is already aware of Iowa's wrestling culture and even compared it to Alabama's football program. He told FloWrestling
It's like Alabama football. It's part of the culture. I can't wait to get there, win some national titles, and dominate Penn State. I'm looking forward to it.
Angelo won't be the only Ferrari joining the Hawkeye wrestling program either. His brother, Anthony, was rated as the 23rd overall prospect back in 2022, and he also committed to the Hawkeyes back in March. His brother originally committed to wrestle at Oklahomo State but never joined the program.
According to Hawkeyes Wire USA Today, Anthony received two misdemeanor assault and battery charges and was given a one-year deferred sentence back in April.
This isn't the only big-time high school wrestler the Hawkeyes have landed either. Miguel Estrada, a three-time state champion from Montana and a top-100 recruit, will also be joining the Hawkeye program for the 2024 season.
Ferrari has made his point pretty clear on his Instagram account that he is ready to be a Hawkeye. Hawkeye fans would probably agree that Ferrari is already looking pretty good in black and gold.
