For A Sweet Brief Moment, The Quad Cities Had The “Slayer Center”
The Mark. The iWireless Center. TaxSlayer Center. Vibrant Arena at The Mark. And for a brief moment on Monday, the Quad Cities finally had "Slayer Center".
New name. New Sign.
On August 18th, 2022 the venue formerly known as TaxSlayer Center was officially renamed the "Vibrant Arena at The Mark". Since then, the venue has slowly been changing everything over to its new logo.
The website has changed. Social media has changed. Signs inside the building started switching over to the new colors of Vibrant Arena. Even your tickets (yes they do still have some actual paper tickets) slowly changed from TaxSlayer to Vibrant Arena.
There was one big sign outside that the Quad Cities kept looking at as we all crept closer to tax season. But on January 23, it went from taxes to banking. But for one sweet moment, it was metal.
Slayer did rock the TaxSlayer Center
Luckily before the TaxSlayer Center changed names, we packed the venue for the Slayer farewell tour. It was a legendary night in November of 2019 with Slayer, Ministry, Primus, and Phil Anselmo & The Illegals. And while pictures floated around with the venue's name "changing" to Slayer Center, it of course didn't happen.
At that time TaxSlayer was still paying the naming rights...and they weren't going to give that up in 2019.
But on Monday, for one sweet moment, the Quad Cities was home to the "Slayer Center".
You can watch WQAD anchor Shelby Kluver pay homage to the metal icons below.
Long live the "Slayer Center".
