The spirit of the Bix is still there, but with a pandemic, you'll have to "run with the best" six feet away from each other. The 46th race won't track the normal course up Brady Street Hill, because the race organizers are switching to a virtual format.

Runners of the 7-mile race will compete virtually, completing the distance of their race anytime between July 1 and July 25th. Participants can run or walk their race anywhere, whether from a treadmill, sidewalk, hiking trail, living room, track, or at the office. Then, you submit your time online.

The QC Bix 7 leadership reached the decision to go online after a long deliberation with their medical staff. The race brings around 5,000 people together between racers and volunteers.

They essentially had four options:

  • Virtual race
  • Go forth as normal so long as social distancing guidelines change
  • Postpone for later in the year
  • Cancel altogether

It would seem that the only viable option for the race was the virtual option.

Rich Harshbarger, CEO of Running USA, said more than 7,500 races have been affected so far.

One reason they chose virtual is for those who would be earning pins this year for 5 or 10 years. When participants submit their times online, a certificate can be printed and shared to social media.

If you've already entered, you can either participate, or use your registration in 2021.
