Thursday's "snowstorm" has come and gone. Quad Citians are waking up to a fresh new layer of snow on the ground and even some slick roads due to cold temperatures and melted snow. While the Quad Cities didn't get too much snow like a major snowstorm would give us, some areas saw almost 2 inches of new snow ahead of St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Thursday's snowstorm mainly passed through southern Iowa and central Illinois. We knew ahead of time that the snowfall totals weren't going to be much, but yesterday, it felt like we got a little more snow than we thought we were going to get.

The snow started Thursday morning and ended Thursday afternoon. While it felt like it snowed for quite a while (because it kind of did), we saw a little less than 2 inches of snow in the Quad Cities.

Thursday's snowstorm shifted south and impacted more of the central portion of Illinois. But we still saw snow falling from the sky. Warm ground temps, especially highly-traveled roadways, kept the snow from sticking, but lawns across the Quad Cities and side roads have a layer of snow still there Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service and reported snowfall totals, this is the amount of snow reported right here in the Quad Cities over the past 24 hours:

  • NNE Moline - 1.8 inches
  • Davenport Airport - 1.2 inches
  • Quad Cities International Airport (Moline) - 1.4 inches

New London, IA reported 2.3 inches of snowfall, the most that is the closest to the Quad Cities metro area.
