Hollywood has been brutal to people with narcolepsy.  It's usually shown as a punchline where someone's face falls into the plate of spaghetti in front of them.

Remember The Sopranos, where Janice's reborn boyfriend falls asleep at the dinner table and Tony starts throwing bread at his face?

Or how about Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigalow, where he takes one of his narcoleptic clients bowling?

It's a disease that is very misunderstood and those that suffer from it may feel very isolated.  That's why the 1st Ever QCA Narcolepsy Club was put together.

Quad Cities Narcolepsy Club is a newly formed organization for people with Narcolepsy. It's vitally important to meet and talk to other people with Narcolepsy.

EXPLANATION

Do you know what it’s like to feel like you're sleepwalking through life? People with Narcolepsy feel fatigued 24/7. Even after sleeping more than 10+ hours, they're still tired.

People with Narcolepsy also experience:

  • Periods of sudden “sleep attacks” during daytime hours.
  • Controlling emotions to avoid Cataplexy (sudden loss of muscle tone while awake)
  • Hypnagogic hallucinations (when you're not quite awake or asleep)
  • Limitations (such as an evening out with friends). Narcoleptics must maintain a strict bedtime schedule, in addition to taking scheduled medications.

The Quad Cities Narcolepsy Club has a fun meetup that's also free. Narcolepsy affects friends & family as well. They are encouraged to join in.  In addition to fun monthly meetups, their future goal is to arrange fun day trips tailored to people with narcolepsy.
