This Is How Eastern Iowa Will Be At The 2023 Masters Tournament
A tradition like no other. The Masters in Augusta Georgia is the most prestigious golf tournament of the year. And for one young Quad Cities area golfer, they'll be able to experience a bit of that golf royalty.
The Drive, Chip, and Putt Competition
Drive, Chip, and Putt is a nationwide youth golf development initiative for boys and girls ages 7-15, designed to inspire a new generation to choose golf as a lifetime pursuit.
Each year the top 80 performers earn an opportunity to compete in the National Finals at Augusta National on the weekend before The Masters.
The three-pronged competition tests the skills essential to playing golf. To win, golfers must win with accuracy in driving, chipping, and putting.
Entering its 9th season of competition, winners from the first year (2014) are now pursuing careers in golf. So while for some it can be a fun way to be more involved in the sport, for others, it can lead to a lifetime pursuit of greatness.
One of the 2023 finalists is from the Quad Cities area.
The 2023 Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel on Sunday, April 2, the eve of the Masters Tournament. And this year, you can watch Sophia Miller from Princeton, Iowa compete.
Sophia will be in the girl's 10-11 competition. Sophia first became interested in golf by watching her older sisters compete all over the country and at the collegiate level. Today, she’s forging her own path as a first-time DCP National Finalist. She says she’s looking forward to being at Augusta National and being on TV!
