Bettendorf and Davenport Roads Opening As Flood Waters Receed
The Mississippi River is starting to get back to normal levels and roads along the river are opening up.
With all the construction throughout other parts of the Quad Cities, the opening of River Drive will be a much-welcome relief for drivers.
Bettendorf Reopens Roads
The city of Bettendorf on May 10 announced that U.S. 67 (River Drive), Grant Street, and 6th Street are back open as the Mississippi River recedes.
As part of the reopening process, Public Works Crews cleaned and inspected the roadways for damage, as well as removed the concrete barriers and ensured floodwaters did not harm the electricity connected to traffic lights.
Crews are now focusing on Leach Park, which remains closed to the public. Starting May 11, workers will remove debris and the concrete flood wall. There is no reopening date set at this time.
You can now take River Drive from I-74 all the way to Tremont before having to take a detour. But the small amount of water just after Tremont should be gone soon as well.
It Was A Nice Drive This Morning!
It's not often you can drive down River Drive at 8:00 a.m. on a Thursday morning and have that be your view. The word will get out soon and it will fill up again. Cause you are reading this now and will take it more. But it was such a nice drive into the Rock and Roll Mansion on this sunny Thursday!
Way better than all the traffic, the red lights, and the potholes on Locust. Thank you to the city crews for cleaning the road and reopening safely and quickly!
