Your Old $2 Bills Could Be Worth Some Major Cash in Illinois Now
If you've been holding onto some old $2 bills for a rainy day, you might have a major payday in the forecast.
How Rare Are $2 Bills?
Several months ago I went to a bank and asked for $50 worth of $2 bills and they looked at me like I had lost my mind.
I knew I was making a weird request because $2 bills aren't really in high demand, but a certain visitor who comes at night and collects teeth likes to give them to my children. Anywho, the bank didn't have any $2 bills on hand (you have to order them), so I had to come up with a plan B.
We had a few older $2 bills lying around the house, and now I might have to go through my children's piggy banks to see if they have some big cash coming their way.
$2 Bills That Are Worth a Lot of Money
An article on mystateline.com says;
the auction site U.S. Currency Auctions estimates that uncirculated $2 bills from every year from 1862 to 1917 are worth at least $1,000.
A $2 bill with a red seal can sell for up to $2,500.
Bills with blue or brown seals can sell for several hundred dollars.
I'm pretty confident that we do not have an uncirculated $2 bill lying around, but a bill worth a blue or brown seal may be a possibility.
If you're now planning on searching through your hidden cash stash for unique $2 bills to cash in, keep these things in mind;
- Older bills have a bigger potential payout.
- Bills with low serial numbers are worth the most. Here's how to find them...
