Moline Police Detain Student With BB Gun Outside Middle School

The Moline Police Department is praising one student for reporting another who had a BB gun with them outside of a middle school Tuesday morning. The student who reported the other student did everything correctly and the police reminded people to say something if they see something.

According to the release from the Moline Police Department, Tuesday morning, the Moline Police Department detained a 12-year-old student with a BB gun outside of John Deere Middle School with Moline-Coal Valley School District.

The police department received a 911 call from a student around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning who was on a Metrolink city bus. The student was from a different school district but reported that a Moline student had a gun on the bus. The student gave a description of the student and identified the bus number they were on.

The Moline Police Department quickly responded and detained the suspect. Police found the individual to be in possession of a BB gun and the BB gun looked identical to a real handgun.

Moline police officials say that there is no danger to the students and educational instruction was not disrupted. Police say they commend the student who reported the information to the police so they could quickly resolve the incident.

"The caller did exactly what law enforcement asks of the public; if you see something, say something. By calling 911, the tipster was able to alert police who were able to take immediate action."

Moline police say that this case is still under investigation by the Moline Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Juvenile Unit.
