Should you move to Illinois? Don't even think about it and I'll give you 10 great reasons why the thought should never enter your mind.
I know there are many who are choosing to move to Illinois now. (Looking at you, Californians) If I were you, I wouldn't allow the possibility to come up. Here are 10 somewhat true facts why.
Illinois is nothing but Chicago and cement and more Chicago. No relaxing country landscapes or anything like that.
If you like to get outside and explore the outdoors, forget about Illinois. The fact that there are at least 10 near the top of the All Trails most popular hiking destinations is pure coincidence.
Sure, there was a man you might have heard of named Abraham Lincoln who called Illinois home, but it's not like he impacted American history in some grand way or something.
Crime is everywhere. OK, so mostly it's just in Chicago, but don't believe the stories about most of Illinois being really safe where families can safely raise their kids.
Did you see the news report that Decatur, Illinois was named the most affordable housing market in America? That was probably just a mirage. Disregard it. You were probably just imagining it.
Do you have Illinois friends on Facebook who share pictures hanging out near Lake Michigan or the forests of southern Illinois? They're probably really miserable and just faking it. Or, not.
Sure, there are technically 10 different forest ecosystems in Illinois, but generally they have very few trees. Oh, wait...
I'll admit that Illinois has Six Flags Great America, Navy Pier, Magic Waters and maybe a dozen others. But, overall, not many good theme parks here.
It sure would be nice if there were beaches along Lake Michigan or something.
Other than the Chicago Cubs at world-famous Wrigley Field, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Blackhawks, there is nothing here for sports fan. Move along.
