Urgent Recall of Illinois Cantaloupe With Fatal Infection Chance
If you have recently picked up cantaloupe in Illinois, you need to know about an urgent recall that could result in potentially fatal infections for some groups.
The Food and Drug Administration just issued this urgent bulletin on Friday, November 24, 2023 regarding cantaloupe what they specifically say was sold in many Illinois stores. The FDA says it involves "4,872 cases of Malichita brand whole cantaloupe" that it's believed may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The urgency in this recall is due to the fact that Salmonella can cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems" as the FDA specifies.
