Illinois Facebook Users Will Be Getting a 2nd Settlement Check This Month
If you live in Illinois and previously filed a claim in the Facebook lawsuit, keep a close eye on your bank account for another settlement payment coming soon.
Illinois Facebook Settlement
For the second time in less than a year, I am sitting here kicking myself for being a lazy idiot. Why? Because I forgot/neglected to file a claim in the Illinois Facebook settlement, and at the end of this month will have officially missed out on about $438 in free money. See? I'm an idiot.
If you are NOT an idiot and DID file a claim in the Illinois Facebook lawsuit and already received one settlement payment, get ready for round 2 coming soon.
Illinois Facebook Settlement Round 2
If you're having trouble following who qualifies for settlement money for Facebook, and who doesn't, (like me), here's a quick refresher from NBC Chicago;
Facebook users located in Illinois for whom Facebook created and stored a face template after June 7, 2011 are eligible for a payout.
To have filed a valid claim under the Settlement, you must have lived in the State of Illinois for a period of at least 183 days (6 months).
The deadline to file a claim form was November 23, 2020.
Eligible Illinois Facebook users should have already received the first settlement payment of $397, and if you cashed that check you will soon be receiving a second settlement payment soon, but this one will be quite a bit smaller...only $30.61.
Why Are Illinois Facebook Users Receiving a Second Settlement Payment?
If you're wondering why you will be getting a second settlement check from Facebook, the answer is pretty simple according to NBC Chicago. The remaining balance represents "more than $40 million left over in the settlement fund from those who did not cash their first payments".
So, those claimants' loss is now your gain. Enjoy your $30.61.
