You never could turn down an afternoon of bowling, and you definitely won't be able to skip bowling for a cause.

Leisure Lanes is hosting their 8th Annual "I Bowl For Boobies & More" benefit, a day of bowling, drinks and food, and raising money for a good cause.

The benefit selects three beneficiaries of the funds raised, to help with cancer treatments.

From Leisure Lanes' post about the event:

  • Our first recipient has worked every position in a bowling center since the age of 16. From pin chaser to owner of The Idle Hour Lanes in Durant. Now 63 years old, Joel Carter has many honor scores on his resume and is a local and State Hall of Famer. Joel was diagnosed with bladder cancer in February 2022 and started chemo in March. After a reevaluation it was determined one tumor remained so he continues to receive chemo once a month until his next evaluation in September.

  • At the age of 42, Ann McMullen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. She received chemo and had a double mastectomy and continued with hormone medication. In 2020 she discovered another lump and doctors found that it was cancer again - which had spread to be metastatic breast cancer. In 2021 she received the red devil chemo and will continue oral chemo meds for the rest of her life. Ann goes in for CT scans every 3 months and receives hormone injections monthly. Ann and her husband have three children ages 22, 20 and 15. She works at St. Ambrose as an office manager.

  • If you've been in a bowling center in the past 25 years you may recognize the next recipient, Diana Griffing. Diana has worked in bowling centers in various roles and likely will know what you drink even if she doesn't know your name. On October 11, 2021 (the week after working all day at last years I Bowl for Boobies & More)Diana was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. On November 5 she had a portion of her colon removed and was off work for a month for recovery. Diana then started chemo treatments on January 5, 2022. On June 20th she received her last chemo treatment and follow up visits have been clear so far. Diana is 51, married and has one daughter.
