With Halloween around the corner, parents everywhere are stocking up on candy to pass out on October 31st. Then we're eating it beforehand and will have to load up again before Trick or Treating happens.

As you're shopping for the 2nd or 3rd time for treats, you might be wondering about the differences between cheap candy and fancy-pants stuff, like the types of candies you'd find in specialty stores instead of trick-or-treating bags.

It's All About Quality: Candy companies realize that we've got a lot of options when it comes to buying treats for trick-or-treaters on Halloween, and they're working hard to find new ways to get us to shell out more cash. You can't see what's inside a chocolate bar, but you'll probably be able to tell if it's been sitting on a store shelf for months before you buy it.

They say the differences mostly come down to three main things . . .

1.  The packaging.  There's clearly a difference between a random Twix wrapper and one of those fancy candies where the paper seems to not even make a noise when you open it.  It glides like silk.

2.  The production process. Fancy candy is usually handmade in small batches and possibly has local sourced ingredients.

 3.  Brand partnerships and marketing. There's more money being spent on advertising the fancy candies to make you believe they are better.

Everyone loves a good chocolate bar—but there’s a difference between cheap and expensive chocolate. Cheap bars of chocolate are loaded with additives, stabilizers, and corn syrup to keep them solid at room temperature for longer periods of time. When melted, they tend to separate into a strange sludge that leaves your stomach unsatisfied rather than full from eating candy.

So...maybe give the cheap stuff to your treat
