Dairy Freez Closes in Davenport’s West End
This week, Dairy Freez in the West End of Davenport has closed its doors.
Dairy Freez, which has been open for almost 60 years, has offered beloved ice cream treats like sundaes, floats, malts, shakes, and more. The business just announced on Facebook that they are closing its doors and will be selling the shop.
As of today, there are no further details available about the closing. Dairy Freez is located at 3950 Rockingham Rd. They are a family-owned and operated business. Besides ice cream treats, Dairy Freez also has American-style dining, including burgers, hot dogs, sloppy joe's, fish, chicken, tenderloins, and more savory plates. And fried appetizers.
Dairy Freez has offered 'Flavors of the Day' in their sweet treats.
When it first began, Dairy Freez was Tastee Freez. The drive-in-style retro restaurant looks just like it did when it opened in 1964. In that time, they've helped many Quad Cities families cool off through the hot summers with their shakes and burgers. Even though the business has changed ownership and management a few times, it has still remained a beloved staple in Davenport's West End.
In a more recent development, Dairy Freez's hours changed last year, as they became closed on Sundays and Mondays. For this year, they reopened for the season on Friday, April 8th with their newer Tuesday-Saturday hours. It is always sad to see beloved local businesses leave us but we can hope something good will come into its building in the West End.
