Woman Survives Car Being Flattened By Semi

A woman in Mt. Vernon, Washington is nothing short of a walking miracle after she survived a horrific car accident in which first responders and witnesses didn't think anyone could survive, let alone walk away from.

Trooper Rocky Oliphant said in his 14 years of service, he's never witnessed anything like what happened this morning on the Skagit River Bridge.

"It is nothing short of a miracle in my opinion, I don't know how she survived this," Oliphant told ABC 13. "There is no explanation to why she's alive, let alone suffer minor injuries."

Officals said the woman was travelling in her Nissan, when a truck in front of her slowed down and she did as well. However, the semi behind her didn't notice and ran straight into her car from behind.

The truck struck her car so hard, it folded the car in half, with the semi landing on top of the heap of metal.

"Just a loud bang," said Mike DeWitt a witness. He explained that first responders assumed the driver was dead.

"They're like there's no way, no way somebody survived that," he said.

Washington State Police shut down the road, and called for a tow truck to remove the semi.

When Trooper Oliphant walked up to the car, he couldn't believe what he heard.

"He walked up, he walked around the car and he heard, 'Help!' and he said, 'Oh my goodness,'" Oliphant said.

The truck was able to be lifted off of the car by the tow truck, and the woman crawled out on her own from a little gap where the passenger window used to be.

"She was able to pull herself out with her own power which is incredible," Oliphant said.

The woman said she only had pain in her head and ribs.
