We've had a pretty wet and stormy stretch of weather the past couple of weeks, but high temperatures have remained rather mild for this time of year but that's about to change.

The rest of this week and upcoming weekend will remain in the lower 80s, but a significant warm up begins on Monday, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast.

High temperatures will creep back up to near 90 degrees on Monday (7/29) in Rockford, along with a 60 percent chance of Thunderstorms during the workday, and another 70 percent chance on Monday night,

High humidity and brutal heat is likely to stick around most of next week with highs around 90 through next Friday (August 2). Thunderstorms will also be a daily occurrence beginning this Sunday (7/28) with a chance of storms every day through August 1.

In the extended forecast from The Weather Channel, temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 80s for the first week of August, when there will be a chance of rain and thunderstorms every afternoon through August 7.

27 tornadoes have now been confirmed in Illinois on July 15, 2024, with a couple tornadoes hitting areas around Rockford.
