Why are stores in Illinois already selling Christmas decorations and it's still summer?

I remember when I was a kid, holidays and the seasons stayed in their lane. You didn't have any sight of them until it was the appropriate time. At the most, it was a month out. For example, you wouldn't see any Halloween stuff until October 1st.

My wife and mom both have birthdays at the beginning of August. During the last week of July, I had an open afternoon so I went out shopping. I was shocked to see some Spirit Halloween store signs already up and decorations for sale at a few places.

I was not happy to see that. We're still enjoying summer and the retailers are pushing a holiday that doesn't even happen until October 31st at me. Can't they at least wait until after Labor Day? It just doesn't seem right.

Oh, that wasn't it. I walked into Hobby Lobby and not only did they have all of their Halloween stuff out. There was also a huge section of Christmas decorations for sale. Are you kidding me? That just ruined my day.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and everything that goes along with it but selling the decorations in July is just not right. In my opinion, there's no way this should happen before Halloween. In my mind, Thanksgiving weekend should really be the rollout.

Christmas History

The thing that sucks is if you want something, you better buy it now because it will all be gone way before the actual holiday season begins. You know as soon as one store does it, the rest will follow. Merry Frickin' Christmas.
