Waterbury Man Arrested After Alleged Carjacking and Second Theft of Recovered Vehicle
A Waterbury man is facing multiple charges after police say he carjacked a woman in November and later stole the same vehicle again after officers had already recovered it.
Repeat Theft Leads to Arrest
According to a statement posted by the Waterbury Police Department, 26-year-old Aaron Rodriguez De Los Santos has been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense) and two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Carjacking Reported in Late November
Police said the investigation began on Nov. 23, when a 2015 Honda Civic was reported stolen. Officers said Rodriguez De Los Santos allegedly followed the victim to her home, approached her as she got out of the car, pushed her, grabbed her key fob, and drove off in her vehicle.
Vehicle Stolen Again After Recovery
The Civic was later located and returned to police custody. However, officers said Rodriguez De Los Santos kept the key fob and used it to steal the vehicle a second time on Wednesday.
Suspect Found With Narcotics
Roughly an hour after the second theft, members of the Auto Theft Task Force spotted the stolen Honda at a gas station on West Main Street. Police said Rodriguez De Los Santos was taken into custody without incident. Officers also reported finding him in possession of fentanyl and crack cocaine.
Police noted that additional charges connected to an earlier incident on Nov. 3 are still pending.
